Given it's not known when filming on the sequel will start, we appear to be some way off finding out when a release date will be set. Owing to the coronavirus outbreak, the project has had to be postponed — something which has affected production of the majority of movies worldwide.
So the release date remains to be seen, but it looks like we will be waiting a while. However, it is assumed the movie sequel will differ to Find Me, the novel's sequel which is set 10 years after the first and focuses on Elio's father Samuel. Instead, Guadagnino has hinted in the past that the sequel to the movie will instead be set in Berlin in the late s during the AIDS crisis.
The director has suggested that he will be returning to the first novel to base the sequel on, which features an epilogue which is set around 15 years after Elio and Oliver's romance in Italy. Guadagnino told the Hollywood Reporter : "The novel has 40 pages at the end that goes through the next 20 years of the lives of Elio and Oliver, so there is some sort of indication through the intention of author Andre Aciman that the story can continue.
According to the interview with La Repubblica, Chalamet and Hammer will be reprising their roles for the sequel. And alongside them, it appears Michael Stulhbarg will be reprising his role as Samuel and Esther Garrel will be returning as Marzia. They will all be there in the new film. Unfortunately there is not a trailer out yet, but we'll update this page as soon as there is one.

Wasn't he still in love with Elio? Deborah Yaffe I think the explanation for Oliver's choice is deliberately left ambiguous, because the story stays so intensely in Elio's point of view.
Perhaps Oliv …more I think the explanation for Oliver's choice is deliberately left ambiguous, because the story stays so intensely in Elio's point of view. Perhaps Oliver is bisexual; perhaps he thinks a more conventional life will be easier or better for his career; perhaps he wants children; perhaps he doesn't have the courage to try to live at the pitch of intensity that he and Elio have sustained during their weeks together; perhaps, as Alex suggests below, he doesn't think that intensity could be sustained and would rather affirmatively choose to surrender it at its peak than see it wither over time.
What I think the incredibly beautiful and sad final pages of the book suggest is that he and Elio have both come to see what could only be understood in retrospect: that what they had was unique, irreplaceable, unrepeatable. But at the same time, they've also come to see that this is true of much that happens to us: every choice means a road not taken in a parallel life.Following its success and awards love including an Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplaydirector Luca Guadagnino has confirmed that he is in fact working on a sequel.
And he has recently teased some more details about the upcoming sequel — so, what's next for the gently doomed romance between Elio and Oliver? It's no secret that Guadagnino is keen to get on with the sequel, and has said that the movie could come as soon as But six months into and there's not a whisper of the sequel.
However, star Armie Hammer was a bit more conservative about how soon the film could happen, suggesting that the cast might need to age a few years first. So Luca wants to wait so that we age a bit more so that gap makes sense, kind of like a Linklater thing. The book includes an epilogue in which the characters encounter each other over the years, with Elio visiting the now married-with-children Oliver 15 years later.
Oliver also returns to Italy five years after that to learn that Elio's father has died. As we'll see, the sequel is likely to chart its own, new course through their lives. But Aciman has been working with Guadagnino on the plot, and we know that the movie version of Oliver was engaged to be married to a woman, so some elements of separation and regret from the novel's end could be incorporated into the new story.
Where can the sequel take our hero next? Guadagnino has already been dropping details about the plot, which will be set "five or six years afterwards," placing it in the late '80s.
And he has some grand themes he wants to tackle in the movie. The novel, however, is set ten years later, so who knows exactly how the events will come together. The director has confirmed that the AIDS crisis will likely play a large part in the story, as well as other events going on in the world at that time including the Gulf War and the rise of Silvio Berlusconi in Italy.
Guadagnino sees the first movie as only the opening act in his characters' story — and thinks that he'll need five films to tell it fully. I also think Oliver will grow up with a beautiful family with his fantastic wife who probably will know about the type of love that Oliver feels for Elio. The setting will also look beyond the beautiful north Italy setting, with Guadagnino promising the film will take his stars "around the world.
As for the title, we don't know what it will be, although Guadagnino knows what it won't be.
According to Guadagnino, the whole cast is returning. Everyone will be in the new movie. It also bagged Chalamet a Best Actor nod at the Oscars, making him the third-youngest nominee in that category in Academy Award history. All that considered, it comes at little surprise that the Call Me By Your Name sequel is in line to bring the family back together, with the two stars' involvement apparently confirmed by Guadagnino. He's probably already plotting how to make sure that he doesn't have to edit Hammer's genitals out of the movie in post-production.
While speaking about the sequel, the director praised his other cast members Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar and Esther Garrel — so we'd bet he was trying to arrange for them to return, too.Hotel Mumbai is a very dark, very violent film. Why take it? It was just dripping with humanity.
Why is he doing this to me? This is a personal attack! How were you able to get in and out of this really dark place on set? I had no choice, really.
It felt really firsthand. And also, it was a very serious set. We were filming in a situation where the idea of life felt really fleeting, so we tried to make the best of it at night. Was your family on set? Not on set on set, because there was a lot of gunfire and blood.
Was it particularly upsetting for Elizabeth or your family to see you in this one? The overall violence was more upsetting than [mine] specifically. Just feeling like you were in a first-person terror attack was really jarring.

So it was about the bigger issue more than me — that this shit happens, and that fucking sucks. It just happened again [in New Zealand]. How about we just stop fucking shooting each other? Antiquated, extremist ideas. Xenophobic philosophies.
Extremism, indoctrination. Healthy emotional boundaries. When did you put those up? Not soon enough. No, it was kind of gradual. It was a generalized thing, built up of specific moments. Like when you were fighting with Jeffrey Dean Morgan? Methinks thou doth protest too much, my man! Do you feel guilty about posting a picture of you and Stan Lee after he died? I heard a rumor someone lost a hand while filming Hotel Mumbai?
No, the director lost a thumb! He stuck it into a fan by accident. His thumb went into it and it just went [ makes the noise of a thumb being cut off by a fan ].
