Frequently bought together. The OME suspension is extremely rugged and heavy duty specifically designed for fully loaded overland vehicles. Matched with the new Nitrocharger Sport shocks specifically for the G-wagen offers a suspension worthy of any overland trip.

This option is definitely the best system for heavily outfitted vehicles which will navigate the mountain passes and wilderness easily with these springs. It is not recommended to get the "Heavy" OME front springs unless you have either a diesel power plant or a permanently mounted winch and heavy winch bumper.

Springs are sold in pairs front both sides and rear both sides. To order a complete set, order one each front and rear springs and shocks, making it 4 separate part numbers. Alternately you can click on one button and order the complete kit medium or heavy. The "A" springs go on the driver side and "B" on the passenger side.

One exception: At the rear, if your fuel tank is on the passenger side, then put the rear "A" spring on the passenger side and "B" on the left.

ORC Springs Both are powder-coated, and both give your vehicle a lift. That's where the similarities end. A note on factory Progressive Spring Rate : Mercedes is very particular in assigning spring rates for variously outfitted trucks, especially the W models. It seems they have an endless supply of various colors and number of color marks per spring from one to three.

Eventually they ended up eliminating most of these and settling for pretty much one rate for the US based trucks after Newest models use a softer spring for a comfy ride like Land Rovers.

However, the rear coil on all factory G-class springs are progressive rate springs. Meaning the coil wire gets progressively thicker as it gets closer to the center of the coil. This thickness progression correlates with how much weight it can carry.

When unloaded the vehicle is designed to sit a little higher on the back end.

G-Wagen OME Coil Springs by ARB

After loading up to the max load capacity it settles close to flat or horizontal. This is where the "progressive" part comes in to compensate for the extra load. Current Jeep Wrangler models also use this technology. Many think this is for a softer ride to soak up small bumps, which this may be true to an extent; however, it is primarily used for the variable load in the back relating to vehicle stance. So for lifted vehicles or rigs made to carry a load over rough terrain this progressive part has nothing to do with ride quality.

So a linear rate spring like the OME or most coil springs work well. Contrary to popular belief ride quality comes mostly from the shocks not the springs unless they are really stiff and not matched well to the vehicles weight.

If you want a soft ride, buy springs from a new g-wagen and use shocks that are relatively weak to match the springs. So, the OME springs that are non-progressive are heavy duty and made for rough offroad driving with a load. Best of all they will not break like the factory springs. Engineering aftermarket 4WD suspension is extremely complex.

Determining the right solution for your vehicle and your requirements demands special attention to many factors. Unlike numerous aftermarket suspension systems, which are only available in a single configuration targeting lift height, Old Man Emu offers a range of tuned and matched integrated suspension systems to ensure the right suspension is available to suit how the vehicle is outfitted and the conditions it will encounter.

The key areas that were considered were lift, load carrying and comfort. When undertaking remote area travel, the need to carry sufficient fuel, water, vehicle spares and safety equipment invariably means that your 4WD will be fully loaded, placing a lot of strain on suspension components. Combine this with punishing off road conditions, and the limitations of standard springs soon become apparent.

Old Man Emu leaf springs are engineered to provide optimum ride performance irrespective of the conditions in which they operate. Old Man Emu greasable shackles and pins facilitate this without the need to remove the shackles, greatly reducing the time and effort involved. ARB designs an extensive range of Old Man Emu coil springs for each vehicle, using state of the art micro-alloyed spring steel to ensure superior resistance to sagging and corrosion.

With such a wide range on offer, coil springs can be better matched to your specific load requirements and intended vehicle usage. While ride height increases are attained, a great emphasis is placed on ride control improvements. Further fine tuning is achieved when the springs are matched to a corresponding set of Old Man Emu shock absorbers, delivering a fully integrated system designed specifically to suit your vehicle.

Designed and set for optimum ride performance with increased spring rates to suit accessory fitment, Old Man Emu Torsion Bars work best when Old Man Emu coil or leaf springs are fitted to the rear of your vehicle, with bars and springs then carefully matched to our range of 4WD shock absorbers. For example: Increasing the spring rate so that it is capable of carrying more load will require the shock absorber to be valved so that it can handle the increased forces of the rebounding spring whilst also providing controlled compression.

Our sales team is trained in selecting the best options based on your individual requirements, however as a starting point the Old Man Emu suspension selector is an easy way to get started. Selections are based on the amount of additional weight added to the vehicle with the front suspension selector including allowances for different bull bar and winch combinations whilst rear selection includes options for constant loads.

As another integral component of the Old Man Emu 4WD suspension range, steering stabilisers are designed to reduce the effect of wheel vibration and improve the feel, handling and control of the vehicle.

They will also reduce the aggressive rotation of the steering wheel over rough roads without affecting steering wheel return. At ARB we take integration to the highest level with our own range of U bolts, centre bolts, spring liners and more.

OME offers a variety of urethane and rubber bushing kits for shock absorbers, leaf springs, pan hard rods, control arms and sway bars.

Quality, application specific, aftermarket suspension is designed to increase load carrying capability and improve both vehicle handling and comfort across all terrains, while providing increased ground clearance to better tackle more challenging terrain. Suspension systems, especially when referring to 4WDs, are extremely complex. Determining the right solution for each 4WD requires special attention to many factors, with weight being the most critical.

At ARB, we take integration to the highest level with our own selection of bushings, U-bolts, center bolts, spring liners, trim packers and suspension fitting kits.

Old Man Emu employs a team of full time ride control engineers to carry out an exhaustive testing and development program on each component in an Old Man Emu Suspension system.

Access to a long list of sophisticated test equipment ensures all development work has an unrelenting, no compromise approach. During development, each new Old Man Emu Suspension system is tested not only for practical performance, but also to ensure compatibility with modern vehicle safety features such as electronic stability control, an area in which ARB has invested heavily in. Depending on the brand you choose, it may well be just that! However, a properly engineered suspension lift is so much more.

Depending on the suspension design, it can also have an adverse effect on driveline angles which can lead to vibration issues and component failure. Engineered correctly, the right suspension system will address these issues, whilst providing an improved ride and weight carrying ability over a variety of road types both on and off road.

The major advantage of lifting a vehicle for off road use is the increased ground clearance it offers the body and mechanical components which can be further enhanced by allowing the fitment of larger diameter tyres.

Increased ground clearance and approach and departure angles help a vehicle navigate difficult terrain without contact with the ground, whilst the extra wheel travel associated with suspension lifts helps keep wheels in contact with the ground providing maximum traction.

However, body lift does not raise the suspension system. This may or may not increase approach, departure, ramp over angles and mechanical components distance from the ground.

There are many other modifications that may also be required such as wiring, radiator hoses, brake lines etc. Larger body lifts always require an engineers certificate for registration.

With lifts this high, a number of components become affected which can cause possible driveline vibration and steering geometry issues.

Larger lifts also have a greater effect on vehicle handling due to the increased centre of gravity which needs to be addressed to avoid issues with cornering and braking.

Old Man Emu Suspension kits offer the greatest legal lift without affecting other components that may have an adverse effect on vehicle drivability. Where possible, Old Man Emu engineers strive to achieve a 2 inch 50mm lift, however, due to limitations with modern independent suspension designs, this is not always possible without major modifications. Achieving a lift larger than 50mm is possible on some vehicle models with live axle designs, but as these are not legal for road registered vehicles in Australia, they are offered for off road competition use only.
