Hello Owner of merc w e Cdi k I am having low fuel pressure issues. I used Star to check high pressure control, Quantity control valve, pressure regulator all sensors seem To be in working order.

And while driving local it usually comes on while accelerating hard up an incline. Good luck. The high pressure fuel pump seems to be in order according to Star. The only thing i havent checked physically is the injectors. Which im not sure how to.

I have done a compression check on star, also done a smooth engine check, everythimg seems ok. Unless im missing something. I would appreciate some expert advice. It only needs 1 to dump fuel under load it cuts out or runs rough Just had it today on a Sprinter customer was advised to replace all injectors another garage one was on full flow and return over rpm dumping the rail pressure.

Might be an idea if you can get them out and send all off for refurbishment. Ignore the high rpm on the top right but the values on the left shouldn't be exceeded when testing in Star. The Y94 valve is a little high on this image but mostly due to high rpms.

The status of regeneration is given as 'Normal operation without regeneration of diesel particulate filter'. Most modern diesel engines have various flaps in the air intake system that alter the flow and swirl of air into the engine depending on speed and load.

I would guess that one of these has become stuck and not able to move freely. Access to these often requires removal of the inlet manifold. The car has done 17, miles since new in my ownership.

Presumably in the inlet manifold the flap cannot be jammed with carbon so it must be a manufacturing problem. If the car is a it is still within the 3 year warranty providing you have maintained it correctly.

Whilst it is possible the intake manifold air flaps could have a manufacturing fault, I think the probable cause would be lack of use given the relatively low mileage. Regeneration is automatically carried out when the pressure differential sensor s sense the DPF is getting full and as long as certain parameters are met, there is no problem.

If these conditions are not met, regeneration is aborted. After three aborted regen's, you usually need a forced regen using manufacturers diagnostic equipment as the soot in the filter is deemed unsafe to burn off under normal conditions. Ignoring this means a new DPF and then things get expensive! Not that load of old nonsense again. You do not need to be revving the engine that high to carry out a regen.

On our old BMW D and our Ceed CRDi regens happily complete with the revs between and for about 20 minutes, in truth they complete faster at these revs than higher ones. It tells you all about regens in your handbook, all makes are slightly different but the BMW and Kia have been pretty much identical. The higher the revs the more carbon created, the faster you go the air ram effect cools the exhaust.

Gently does it as they say. Having carried out live testing on regens its very interesting to see how driving gently reduces the soot content but thrashing it increases it! The car had done 2 x mile trips the previous day to the initial problem on Shell standard diesel fuel.

The car is used for mainly longish trips then stands for a few days.Switching off and on the engine cured the fault, until trying to attain over 70mph where it would fail again. Sure enough if you maintained a constant rpm with the vehicle stationary, after about 30 seconds the revs began to drop to about rpm and immediately pulled back up to circa rpm, all repeating in a one or two second cycle. Idle was normal, regular and unaffected. Inspecting the clear LP to HP pump fuel delivery hoses — all looked perfect with no visible air circulating, all the connections to the filter including the non return valve and supply checked out fine.

I suspected, against my better judgment, that the low pressure fuel pump had developed a fault. Strange, because I have never replaced this item on any of the Sprinters I have had through my hands and perhaps this was going to be the first!

Disbelieving it could actually be the low pressure pump, I checked the from-tank fuel delivery hose and blew back the line with low air pressure to prove the flow. This was fine too. So lets change the low pressure pump…. To change the low pressure fuel delivery pump first remove the top turbo hose to gain unrestricted access to the area.

Release and pull off the hard black vacuum pipe that serves the brake servo and tuck it out of the way. Now undo the two reverse torx head bolts that hold the vacuum pump to the cylinder head.

You can use an 8mm multipoint socket if you do not have the appropriate tool. Take care, as one of the fixing bolts also supports the dip stick tube, make sure you twist this tab carefully out of the way so as not to foul the vac pump as it is withdrawn. Now with a straight controlled pull remove the vacuum pump from its recess in the head, noting how it engages in the cam shaft and the orientation of the coupling, as this will have to maintained to allow you to refit the pump later.

Once the vacuum pump is out of the way the low pressure fuel pump can be fully accessed to the right. Next the input and output fuel pipe unions have to be released and withdrawn from their spigots.

Tuck the two pipes out of the way, making sure that the unions are kept clean and not damaged in any way while you work. The low pressure fuel pump is now removed by taking out the two remaining reverse torx housing screws and withdrawing the pump from the cylinder head, in much the same way as the vacuum pump, noting the position of the drive coupling.

Since you have probably lost some fuel in the lines, possibly you have fitted a new dry-pump be prepared for a delayed start of the engine. Usually it fires immediately on turning the key then dies.

This is to be expected, keep turning the engine over and within 10 sec or so it should fire. If not, wait for a minute and then try the starter for another second burst, repeat until it fires which should be well before the third try.

Make sure you have not damaged any O-ring seals on the click-on fuel unions and that are connected correctly. The only thing left to replace was the low pressure fuel sensor, this lives beneath the inlet manifold on the right front as looking in.

Because the sensor is inverted the seal cannot always be seen to be stuck on the receiver, and the last thing you want to do is to fit a new sensor with new alloy washer while the old one is still in place! Needless to say, once the van was restarted the fault had been cured. Hopefully this section has given you an idea of things to check if you have a Mercedes CDI diesel engine with similar issues.

I have a Mercedes vito diesel van which cuts out whilst driving. It restarts no problem then will cut out again. I have had the fuel pump replaced.
